Insider: Obsidian Studios has moved Avowed to Unreal Engine 5.3 - the ambitious RPG will be one of the first projects on the latest version of the engine from Epic Games
In February 2024, Microsoft held an extensive demonstration of the fantasy RPG Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment.
The mechanics, concept, art style and description of Avowed impressed many gamers, but there were many who criticised its technical execution, pointing to somewhat outdated graphics and questionable quality of visual effects.
The developers immediately made it clear that the demonstrated version of Avowed is far from final and the time left before the release will be used to improve the graphics and the general technical state of the game.
Here's What We Know
According to Windows Central insider and journalist Jez Corden, Obsidian, with the support of the technical department of Xbox and colleagues from The Coalition studio (developers of Gears), has transferred Avowed to Unreal Engine 5.3 - the most modern version of the engine from Epic Games.
As such, the ambitious RPG will not only offer improved graphics, but also support for advanced technology, and will be one of the first games to be released on Unreal Engine 5.3.
The release date for Avowed is listed as autumn 2024, with the game's closest demonstration apparently taking place on 9 June at the Xbox Games Showcase. The game will be available on PC and Xbox Series and will be available immediately in the Game Pass catalogue.
