Snapdragon X Elite is many times more productive than Apple M2 in the multi-core test, but inferior to it in the single-core test
In the latest performance comparison, Microsoft's new Surface laptop with the Snapdragon X Elite SoC performed strongly, beating Apple's M2 chip in multi-core tests. These laptops are already available for pre-order and shipments will start in July.
Here's What We Know
Hardware enthusiast HXL has shared test results that show the new processor can compete with Apple's M2 chip. The tests used CPU-Z to evaluate the performance of the Surface Laptop 7 with the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 SoC. HXL used virtual Windows 11 to compare it to the MacBook on the M2 chip, which may affect the test results.
In the end, the Surface Laptop 7 performed significantly better in the multi-core test, scoring 7,923.5 points compared to the M2's 3,822.3. However, in the single-threaded test, the M2 maintained its advantage, scoring 749.5 points against 686.0 for the Snapdragon X Elite.
This is the first comparison that shows the potential of the Snapdragon X Elite chips as an alternative to Apple's M-series chipsets. Qualcomm is also offering official Linux support for the Snapdragon X processors, which may appeal to fans of open source operating systems.
Thus, the new Snapdragon X Elite chip could be a serious competitor for Apple's M-series chips, especially for users looking for devices with a slim design and longer battery life. However, more data is needed to fully understand their comparative performance.
