Rumour: 2K to get FIFA licence for new game this year
While EA is developing its EA Sports FC franchise, it looks like another company may get the FIFA licence. The retailer MohPlay Inc has reported that 2K has obtained the FIFA licence and is working on a new game, FIFA 2K25, which is scheduled for release this year.
Here's What We Know
Mike Straw of Insider Gaming supported this statement on social network X, suggesting that the announcement might be imminent. However, no one has officially confirmed this information, and both 2K and FIFA have not yet made any announcements.
If true, this would be EA's first real competition in football games in years, especially after Konami moved on from Pro Evolution Soccer to the free-to-play game eFootball. The last FIFA game from EA was FIFA 23, and EA Sports FC 24 was the first under the new brand. EA is expected to release EA Sports FC 25 this year.
EA and FIFA's partnership ended after FIFA demanded more than $2.5 billion to extend the deal for four years. EA decided to end the partnership, forcing FIFA to look for new partners for future licensed games.
Last year, FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that a new game was in development.
