Xiaomi accused of illegal use of LTE-A - compensation estimated at $300 million
Sun Patent Trust has filed a lawsuit against Xiaomi. The patent lawsuit hearings will be held in India and France.
Here's What We Know
The claim of Sun Patent Trust to Xiaomi is that, according to the plaintiff, the Chinese company illegally uses LTE-A technology in its smartphones. Representatives of Sun Patent Trust state that Xiaomi has been using the standard without licensing since the end of 2018.
If Xiaomi loses, it will have to pay compensation of up to $300 million. The hearing in India will focus on infringement of the standard-forming patents, while France will consider the appropriateness of paying royalties for those patents.
Sun Patent Trust owns about 3,000 patents that were previously owned by Panasonic. The Delaware-based company claims Xiaomi has infringed more than 160 patents related to the LTE-A standard.
