Android AICore update for Gemini Nano debuts on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a
Gemini Nano is now available on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a. Before the official release, the Android AICore update was released.
Here's What We Know
An update for Android AICore for Pixel 8 with version 0.release.pixel8.636144055 is now available on the Google Play Store.
After the update, AICore Settings will be available in the Developer Options, Settings section. This page allows you to enable GenAl features that will work through AlCore using Gemini.
The update also activates the process of downloading the large Gemini Nano model. The process can take several days and requires a Wi-Fi connection while the device is charging overnight.
The option is disabled by default and is only available on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a with the Tensor G3 chip. This provides an opportunity for Pixel developers and users to experience the new features of Gemini Nano.
Gemini Nano supports features such as Summarise in Pixel Recorder, Gboard Smart Reply (in WhatsApp, Line, and KakaoTalk), and Google Messages Magic Compose.
Google also plans to roll out Gemini Nano to other Android 14 devices in June.
