Lithuania to order German IRIS-T SLM air defence systems after successful use in Ukraine
Lithuania intends to strengthen its air defence with German IRIS-T SLM medium-range surface-to-air missile systems. This was announced by the Baltic defence minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas during a meeting with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius.
Here's What We Know
The IRIS-T SLM air defence system has proven itself in Ukraine. However, deliveries to Lithuania will begin in a few years. According to the German defence minister, because of the war in Ukraine, Germany has no complexes available for sale now.
IRIS-T provides defence against aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and drones. The complex contains several launchers with up to eight vertical launch containers. It has a maximum range of 40 kilometres and an altitude of 20 kilometres to intercept air threats.
