Russia sets an "anti-record": it loses 1200 soldiers a day
New British intelligence data shows that Russia's intense attacks along the entire frontline are costing it thousands of lives, the highest number of casualties in the war.
Here's What We Know
The service attributes the high level of casualties to Russia's savage offensive: its ability to replenish its units is limited due to constant and heavy losses.
The UK Ministry of Defence has stated that the average number of Russian soldier casualties in May was more than 1,200 per day, the highest since the beginning of the war. The ministry also said that the total number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded since the invasion in February 2022 is likely to be 500,000.
The increase in casualties in May is primarily due to the offensive along the entire front line. Russia wants to try to capture more territory before the Ukrainian frontline is rearmed with more ammunition sent by the allies. This may also be the result of Russia throwing relatively inexperienced and untrained soldiers into the battle.
According to the ministry, "it is very likely that most Russian forces receive only limited training and are not capable of conducting complex offensive operations. As a result, Russia is using small but costly wave attacks in an attempt to weaken Ukrainian defences."
