Ukraine uses HIMARS to destroy S-400 surface-to-air missile system on russian territory
The USA has authorised Ukraine to use US weapons to destroy targets located on the territory of the Russian Federation. Immediately after that, the Ukrainian Defence Forces successfully destroyed a S-400 surface-to-air missile system located in Belgorod Region.
Here's What We Know
The strike on the air defence system was carried out by the M142 HIMARS high-mobility artillery rocket system. High-precision guided GMLRS projectiles can hit targets within a radius of about 80 kilometres.
Judging by the photos, at least two launchers of the S-400 surface-to-air missile system were completely destroyed. Supply vehicles and/or the combat control centre could also have been hit. The 92N6 radar station was damaged.
The destruction of the surface-to-air missile system would weaken the capabilities of the Russian air defence system. The S-400 strike came amid an offensive by Russian troops in the Kharkiv region.
