Google adds automatic dark mode for websites in its iPhone app
Google has announced the introduction of automatic dark mode for websites in its iPhone app. This new feature is available in the experimental Search Labs section and is designed to allow users to stay in dark mode regardless of the site they are visiting.
Here's How It Works
Once dark mode is enabled on a device, all websites visited through the Google app will automatically adapt to the app's dark theme.
Google's iPhone app is actually a web browser with its own tabbed system. According to Google, once the experiment is enabled, the automatic dark mode will be applied to all relevant sites by default, but users can turn it off at any time using the new sun icon in the address bar.
Although this option is only being introduced in Google's iOS app, the company plans to expand its availability. It is not currently available for Android. It is worth noting that the quality of the dark mode conversion may vary, and the experiment does not apply to websites that already have their own dark theme.
It should be noted that this innovation combines Talk to a Live Representative, Notes on Search, and artificial intelligence in Google's browsing experience. Additional details about this and other innovations were presented at the I/O 2024 conference.
