Insider: Performance of the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor reaches 4.2GHz, scoring 10k points in multi-core test
Qualcomm's next flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, will reportedly bring significant changes to its smartphone SoC line-up by using specially designed Orion processor cores. According to rumours, the new cores will significantly increase the performance of the new chip.
Here's What We Know
The main change in Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be the specially designed Orion cores. According to a leak from whistleblower Digital Chat Station, the high-performance Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 core will be clocked at 4.2GHz. This is a significant jump from the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which has a maximum frequency of 3.3GHz. MediaTek's rival Dimensity 9400 could come under pressure due to such specifications of Qualcomm's new chip.
The prototype processor, according to the insider, also performed impressively in benchmarks, scoring 3,000 points in single-threaded and 10,000 points in multi-threaded mode on Geekbench. This performance improvement is 35.5 per cent and 33.9 per cent respectively, compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Xiaomi 15 is expected to be the first smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, but the cost of such devices may be higher due to the increased cost of manufacturing the SoC on TSMC's 3nm process.
