Corning Gorilla Glass 7i: protected glass for budget and mid-budget smartphones
Corning has announced a new protective glass for mobile devices.
Here's What We Know
The novelty is called Gorilla Glass 7i. Tests conducted in the company's laboratories showed that Gorilla Glass 7i can withstand a fall from a height of up to one metre on the asphalt. Other glasses of this type often fail when dropped from a shorter distance. In addition, Gorilla Glass 7i is twice as scratch-resistant as its competitors.
By the way, Corning specifically designed Gorilla Glass 7i for budget and mid-budget devices. Since most of them are now using older versions of Gorilla Glass. For example, the recently released Nothing Phone (2a) and POCO F6 Pro smartphone come with Gorilla Glass 5, which was introduced in 2016. Or, for example, the Google Pixel 8a uses Gorilla Glass 3 from 2013.
When We Can Expect It
Devices with Gorilla Glass 7i will appear on the market soon. The first to get the new glass will be the OPPO smartphone.
