Google adds more features with Gemini artificial intelligence to Gmail on Android
Google continues to improve the functionality of its Gmail email app for Android, adding new features via the Gemini button that will soon be available for all users.
Here's What We Know
Last month, our colleagues at Android Authority were able to activate the button for Gemini in the Gmail for Android app. This allowed them to access the full version of the chatbot in the email client, which they could use for a number of tasks, including summarising emails. The latest update to the Gmail app (version 2024.05.26.638440827) includes improvements for this button, offering users quick hints and suggestions for various tasks.
Now when you tap the Gemini button, a pop-up window appears with quick hints and suggestions for tasks that can be assigned to Gemini. The three options currently available are "Summarise this email", "List next steps" and "Suggest a response".
Clicking on each button performs the corresponding task. These suggestions make it easier to use Gemini to read and write emails in Gmail. There's no word yet on when Google will make the new button available to all users, but given the speed at which Gemini is being integrated into its services, it shouldn't take long.
