Yesterday, 6 June, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Dassault Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets. Now some details of the aircraft transfer have appeared on the Internet.

Here's What We Know

France will launch a training programme for Ukrainian pilots on June 7. If everything goes according to plan, the delivery of fighters will begin by the end of this year. By the way, apart from pilots, France will also train 4500 Ukrainian military personnel on its territory.

Flashback

The Mirage 2000-5 is a modernised version of the original Mirage 2000. The aircraft features a number of significant improvements.

Firstly, it is equipped with an advanced RDY radar system, which allows it to detect and track multiple targets simultaneously at long distances, increasing situational awareness and combat capabilities.

Second, the Mirage 2000-5 supports modern MICA air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, while the Mirage 2000 uses older weapons.

Third, the modernised cockpit of the Mirage 2000-5 has multi-channel displays and improved control systems, making it easier to pilot and perform combat missions.

Fourth, the Mirage 2000-5's advanced fire control system improves accuracy and responsiveness when engaging targets. Finally, the Mirage 2000-5 is better suited for multi-role missions, including interception, strikes against ground targets and reconnaissance.
