Apple to announce new password management app at WWDC
Apple will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week. At the event, Apple is expected to unveil all the artificial intelligence projects it has been working on. Along with the AI announcements, the company may also unveil a new password management app.
Here's What We Know
According to information from Bloomberg, Apple plans to unveil an app called Passwords on 10 June at WWDC. This app will generate and track passwords, support verification codes, and act as an authentication app similar to Google Authenticator.
The app is reportedly powered by iCloud Keychain, which allows users to synchronise their passwords and passkeys between Apple devices. Previously, this functionality was hidden in the app's settings or appeared when a user logged into their account, but the company has now turned it into a separate app. The reason for turning the feature into an app seems to be a desire to encourage users to use more secure passwords and promote the privacy of their devices.
Like many other password managers, the app will create a list of your passwords and access keys. They say the app will also separate your login details into separate categories, such as accounts, Wi-Fi networks, access keys, and Face ID and Touch ID. And when you go to a website to log in to an account, Passwords can automatically fill in the details for you.
Passwords will appear as part of iOS 18, iOS 18 iPad and macOS 15. However, it is reported that the app will also work with Vision Pro and Windows PCs.
