Ukraine is developing its own cruise bombs, as those supplied by the US often do not work
Ukraine is developing its own guided aerial bombs in an attempt to offset the numerical superiority of Russian weapons, which cause a lot of damage both on the front line and in the rear.
Here's What We Know
Brigadier General Serhiy Holubtsov, Chief of Aviation of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that in the coming weeks Ukraine will start testing domestic bombs.
"We are also currently working on re-equipping and creating our own adjusted bombs, based on conventional free-fall bombs," the general told Radio Liberty.
According to Golubtsov, there are many difficult decisions to be made regarding Ukraine's homemade bombs, including "choosing the right wing, GPS module and control module. In a few weeks, we should start testing the first batches of these Ukrainian-made bombs."
Cruise missiles have guidance systems that allow them to be launched over long distances. Russian aircraft are capable of launching the same bombs from safe territory and in large numbers, making it very difficult for Ukraine to stop them.
Over the past few months, Russia has stepped up its use of these bombs, giving it a significant military advantage. Russia often uses them to strike civilian targets in the Kharkiv region. In addition, many experts consider these bombs to be a decisive factor in Russia's occupation of Avdiivka, its first major victory in several months.
Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia was using more than 3,000 bombs against Ukraine every month.
