Among the new software announced at WWDC 2024, Apple introduced watchOS 11, the next version of the Apple Watch operating system.

Here's What We Know

For watchOS 11, developers have added new fitness and health features, as well as Live Activities and several other settings. However, one of the most anticipated new features is the Translate app for Apple Watch.

Apple's Translate app was introduced in 2020 with iOS 14 and support for 20 languages, including Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Ukrainian.

Users of the Translate app on iPhone will feel familiar when they update their Apple Watch to watchOS 11. The new app is based on the iPhone app, so both have a similar interface and features.

Details

  • Voice translation: Owners can use their voice to translate from one language to another. The app can also read the translated text out loud.
  • Text typing: The ability to enter text using the Apple Watch's built-in keyboard.
  • Offline translation: Users can download languages to the Apple Watch for offline translation.

Apple includes the Translate Smart Stack app widget in watchOS 11, which allows Apple Watch to detect when you're travelling to a different country with a different language to help you translate quickly.

When We Can Expect It

watchOS 11 will be available to the public this autumn. A developer beta is available now, and the public beta will be released next month. The update requires an Apple Watch Series 6 or later.
