Germany, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands to transfer 100 missiles for Patriot SAMs to Ukraine

Ukraine's European partners are going to send additional missiles for Patriot systems to the Ukrainian armed forces.

We are talking about 100 missiles. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said this at a news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 11 June. Germany will deliver the missiles jointly with Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. There is no information yet on when deliveries will begin.

The Patriot SAM system uses several types of missiles to intercept various air threats. The main missiles include:

• MIM-104 Patriot: This is the basic missile of the complex, used to intercept aircraft and cruise missiles. It is equipped with a fragmentation warhead and has a range of up to 70 kilometres.
• PAC-2 (Patriot Advanced Capability-2): A modernised version of the MIM-104. The PAC-2 has an extended range of 160 kilometres and an improved homing system.
• PAC-3 (Patriot Advanced Capability-3): This is the most advanced version designed to intercept ballistic missiles. The PAC-3 has a more compact design, allowing more missiles to be placed in a single launcher. It is equipped with a kinetic warhead that destroys the target with a direct hit.
• PAC-3 MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement): An improved version of the PAC-3 with increased range and manoeuvrability. The PAC-3 MSE is equipped with a more powerful engine and improved control system, allowing it to intercept targets at greater distances and altitudes.
