The Russian Federation has decided to strengthen its air defence in the temporarily occupied Crimea. For the first time, the aggressor country has deployed S-500 Prometheus surface-to-air missile systems.

Here's What We Know

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed quite a few Russian S-400 Triumf launchers with their own Neptune anti-ship missiles, as well as thanks to American ATACMS ballistic missiles. This is one of the reasons why the Russians have deployed the S-500 Prometheus systems.

Kirill Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, announced plans for the trial use of the latest and expensive surface-to-air missile system. According to him, elements of the S-500 Prometheus system will be used to protect the Kerch bridge.

The S-500 is an anti-aircraft missile system developed by Almaz-Antey. The complex is designed primarily to counter ballistic missiles with a range of up to 3,500 kilometres, as well as intercontinental ballistic missiles at the terminal stage of flight.
