Yahoo has built artificial intelligence into its Yahoo News app: it can now detect clickbait headlines
Yahoo has decided to upgrade its news app with artificial intelligence: it will generate your feed, create a short article summary and mark clickbait headlines - all thanks to the purchase of Articaft, which Yahoo made in April.
Here's What We Know
Artifact was an app that actually used artificial intelligence to generate a smarter news feed based on your preferences. The update shows how the Artifact team's developments can improve the news feed in Yahoo News, which has more than 180 million unique visitors from the US every month.
The updated Yahoo News app, which is now available on iOS and Android and will be coming to desktop later, prompts you to select topics and publishers when you first launch to customise your personalised news feed. One of the interesting features is Key Takeaways, which summarises the main ideas and displays them at the top of the screen; a similar feature was present in the Artifact app, called Summarise.
Of course, you can also customise the feed yourself: block keywords (such as "cryptocurrency") or publishers whose content you don't want to read. However, one of the most interesting features is clickbait marking, which will rewrite headlines that contain some overly "sensational" or false information.
Yahoo is also updating the design of its homepage: the interface gives priority to top news, personalised recommendations and trending topics in real time. The design is designed to be constantly evolving. Users can tap into new features, many of which are likely to be AI-based, as soon as they are introduced.
