The Shattered Space expansion for Starfield is similar in scale to Fallout 4: Far Harbor
Starfield has recently received significant free updates, but its first paid expansion, Shattered Space, is due out later this year. A trailer at the recent Xbox Games Showcase revealed that players will explore the city of Dazra on the hidden home planet of House Va'ruun. In an interview with the MrMattyPlays YouTube channel, director Todd Howard shared more details.
Here's What We Know
Howard said that Shattered Space will be set on a single handcrafted planet, offering the detailed design that Bethesda role-playing games are known for, as opposed to the procedurally generated planets of Starfield:
"The bulk of that expansion pack, once you get to the city and the planet, it takes place there. It allows us to build a landscape like we would traditionally do, and have the city and the quest.".
He compared the size and scope of Shattered Space to the Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4, noting that Bethesda intends to release significant story expansions for Starfield every year.
"From a content perspective, we're looking at something similar to what we did with Far Harbor in Fallout 4. We're very excited about that. It allows us to do some things in a way that we've done in previous games and give people the opportunity to explore this new kind of alien world".
Far Harbor lasted from 10 to 20 hours, which indicates that significant new content appeared in Starfield every year. However, it remains unclear how long this will last, especially with The Elder Scrolls 6 in development.
