Atmospheric, creepy, but boring: critics disagree on Still Wakes the Deep from the makers of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
Tomorrow - 18th June - will be the release of Still Wakes the Deep from The Chinese Room studio, known for Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and at the moment the British are finishing the development of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2.
Critics got acquainted with the horror and published their reviews.
Here's What We Know
According to the trailers Still Wakes the Deep seemed to be an atmospheric, rather creepy and slow-paced game, which will please not everyone. And judging by the critics' reviews, this opinion turned out to be correct. Evaluations of the horror vary from 100 to 60, which indicates the ambiguity of the game.
Experts praised the plot, acting and general atmosphere of Still Wakes the Deep, which is reminiscent of classic film horror of the 80s and 90s, in particular, "Alien" (Alien). This comparison is probably due to the fact that, just like in the cult film by Ridley Scott, the hero finds himself in a confined space with a wandering monster. But in Still Wakes the Deep the action develops not on a space station, but on an oil platform off the coast of Scotland. At the same time, the journalists noted meditative and a little bit boring gameplay, which, despite not too high game duration, can be tiring.
As a result, the game received the following scores on aggregators:
- Metacritic - from 72 to 83 points depending on the platform;
- OpenCritic - 76 points with 67% of recommendations.
Still Wakes the Deep will be released on June 18, 2024 on PC (EGS and Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series and will be available immediately in the Game Pass catalogue.
