Black Myth: WuKong promises to be a sensation: journalists of the leading gaming media got acquainted with the demo version of the action game and publish enthusiastic previews
At Summer Games Fest 2024, journalists were given the opportunity to check out a two-hour demo of the Black Myth: WuKong action game and today the embargo on publishing videos and reviews was lifted.
Here's What We Know
Experts almost unanimously came to the conclusion that Black Myth: WuKong is a stunningly beautiful game, and the visual design of locations and creatures is done at the highest level.
The combat system was also highly praised: it is complex, multifaceted and comprehensive, each enemy has unique abilities and requires an individual approach to combat.
In the demo version the Monkey King couldn't block enemies' blows, so players had to rely on timely evasions, but not everything is so simple with them. In a limited time, the hero can only perform three dashes to the side, after which he needs time to recover.
Dodging at the last moment before a blow fills up the player's "Focus" scale, which can be used to perform special attacks.
In addition, the hero has magical abilities that require mana to use. At the same time the player can have four spells on "hotkeys", for example, freezing the enemy, but it does not affect all enemies.
The Monkey King can transform into defeated enemies and gain their abilities, but he can only stay in this form for a few minutes.
The character development system in Black Myth: WuKong is reminiscent of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - for winning battles the player is awarded experience points, for which he can purchase various improvements, skills and abilities. After each death, as is customary in the souls-like genre, the player loses a part of the earned experience.
FromSoftware games are also reminded of the analogues of Dark Souls fires, on which the hero is revived after death, and in addition they allow you to quickly move between different locations.
Journalists also praised the bosses. We've already told about the battle of the Monkey King with Toad and Bear, but in the game there will be a lot of various complex and interesting enemies, each of which will require stamina and concentration.
There are also secret places in the action, access to them will be a reward for the most attentive players.
In the demo version there were only linear locations, which upset the press representatives, but it doesn't mean that all levels in the game will be like that.
Summarising, we note that the journalists are sure - Black Myth: WuKong will be an excellent action game with a great combat system and interesting enemies. It is noteworthy that some of them voiced an unusual complaint to Game Science studio: a number of journalists believe that WuKong has an overly detailed world, which makes the game not only a little bit sluggish, but also sometimes the player doesn't understand where he can go, and what is just a decoration.
When We Can Expect It
Black Myth: Wukong is expected to be released on 20 August 2024. The game will first be released on PS5 and PC, and will later be available on the Xbox Series.
