Lockheed Martin and Rheimetall unveiled GMARS, a HIMARS analogue capable of launching JASSM cruise missiles
Lockheed Martin and Rheimetall showed a German variant of the HIMARS missile system at Eurosatory 2024. It is called GMARS (Global Mobile Artillery Rocket System).
Here's What We Know
The system has a Rheinmetall HX wheeled chassis and a "dual" launcher, as in the M270 MLRS multiple launch rocket system. A full salvo includes from two to 12 projectiles, depending on the type.
An important innovation will be the ability to launch JASSM missiles. This option will be added in the future along with support for 122 mm calibre projectiles with a launch range of 22 km. The JASSM cruise missile in the basic configuration has a range of 370 kilometres.
Naturally, GMARS will be able to strike with the same projectiles as HIMARS. Specifically, GMLRS, GMLRS ER, ATACMS and PrSM.
