Funcom Studios held a second broadcast dedicated to the details of the ambitious survival simulator Dune: Awakening Direct.

Here's What We Know

The developers from Funcom paid attention to the character editor and the possibilities it offers.

Players will be able to choose not only the appearance and physical features of their hero, but also several options for his backstory. For example, you can choose your home planet and the profession of the mentor the hero learnt from. From this depends on the starting characteristics, abilities, variants of lines in dialogues and other elements. However, the developers emphasised that the game will not be rigidly tied to character classes and each hero can learn all the classes and professions available in the game.

Unlike most competitors in the genre, Dune: Awakening Direct relies heavily on story and narrative.

The main mystery in the game will be the reason why the Fremen people disappeared from the planet Arrakis. Players will have to find out what led to these events and where they went.

It should be reminded that the plot of Dune: Awakening unfolds in an alternate reality in relation to the novels of Frank Herbert and Denis Villeneuve films of the same name. In this version, Paul Atreides has not yet been born, causing many events to take a different turn.

From the beginning of the game, you can't join any of the factions: you can only do so after learning about the principles, ideals and goals of each faction. The developers wanted this to be a conscious choice, not a random decision.

The world in Dune: Awakening will not be a single map, but a set of locations divided into levels. The main gameplay will take place in the deep desert Deep Desert, where players will face the most difficult challenges, but the rewards will be corresponding.

Every week the world in the game will be updated - the developers creatively and elegantly implemented this mechanics through large-scale sandstorms.

Funcom does not exclude that add-ons will be released for the game, but it's too early to talk about it.

When We Can Expect It

No release date for Dune: Awakening has been announced yet, but the game is already in beta testing.
The project is being developed on PC, Xbox Series and PlayStation 5.
