Brigadier General Ivan Lukashevych, the chief ideologist of Ukraine's naval drone fleet, said that Ukraine wants to deploy up to 20 naval drones to carry out warship missions.

Here's What We Know

He said that the units, each with around 10-20 drones, would work in a coordinated manner to combine several separate functions.

"We have a fleet, but it is divided into smaller elements," Lukashevich told the newspaper.

Lukashevych, who has been appointed to head the SBU's special unit, noted that previously, maritime drones were used mainly for surveillance or logistics.

"We are doing many things that no one in the world has done with this technology," he added.

Over the past two years, Ukraine has managed to destroy several dozen Russian warships, boats, destroyers, etc. For example, a Sea Baby drone damaged an important spot in the Kerch Bridge last autumn, and a Magura V5 drone destroyed the Ivanivets in February this year. Ukraine has also installed a Grad multiple rocket launcher on the back of the Sea Baby drone to hit ground targets.

The idea of a drone unit that would replicate the tasks of a full-fledged warship is just the latest idea in the rapid development of Ukraine's maritime drone capabilities.
