Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark R utte ( Mark Rutte ) became the new NATO Secretary General. He will replace Jens Stoltenberg (Jens St oltenberg). Stoltenberg has served as secretary-general since 2014. Rutte will begin his duties on 1 October this year.

Mark Rutte is a Dutch politician and leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). He was born on 14 February 1967 in The Hague. Rutte was educated at Leiden University, where he studied history. He began his political career in 2002 when he became State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment.

Rutte became Prime Minister of the Netherlands in 2010, leading a coalition government. Under his leadership, the country went through the financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, and introduced various reforms in the economy, health and education. Rutte is known for his pragmatism, charisma and negotiation skills, which allowed him to remain as prime minister for several terms, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in Dutch history.
