Consoles are no longer necessary: games from the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate catalogue, via Amazon's Fire TV device, will be available on TVs

Microsoft continues to expand the Xbox ecosystem and has announced that TV users with an Amazon Fire TV connected device will now be able to play games without consoles or PCs.

In July, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Stick 4K devices will make Xbox Game Pass Ultimate support available, allowing all games in the service's catalogue to be played on TV screens.

Amazon Fire TV owners need to have a Microsoft account, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a Bluetooth wireless controller, and it is separately emphasised that the gamepad does not have to be from Xbox, the DualSense from PS5, DualShock from PS4 and other Bluetooth controllers will also work.

Those who pay for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the first time will receive a discounted monthly rate.

The games on Amazon Fire TV run via cloud streaming, hence the need for a constant internet connection.
