According to the VG Insights report, more co-op games were released and sold on Steam last year than in any other year. In 2023, 799 co-op games were released on Steam, which is more than in 2022 (701 games), 2021 (650 games), and 2020 (647 games).
Last year, 36% of all games sold on Steam were co-operative. The report notes that the trend will change in 2024: 46% of games sold on Steam will have a co-operative element.
Helldivers 2 alone accounted for 28% of all co-op game sales on Steam in 2024.
According to the report, the average sale of a co-operative game on Steam is about 40,000 copies, while the average sale of a non-cooperative game is 5,000 copies.
