Google Messages integrates MLS for E2EE across all messaging apps

The Google Messages app now contains code that indicates support for Messaging Layer Security (MLS).
Here's What We Know
MLS is a new standard designed to provide end-to-end encryption (E2EE) in one-to-one and group chats across platforms and messaging apps.
E2EE was limited to individual apps, making it inconvenient for users who chat with friends and family across platforms.
The integration of MLS into Google Messages could be a catalyst for wider adoption of the standard. Google has already played a key role in promoting RCS, another protocol to improve messaging, and its support for MLS could have a similar effect.
It is important to note that:
- MLS development is still in the early stages and it is unknown when it will be widely available.
- Integrating MLS into Google Messages may result in some changes to the way the app works.
- Some messaging apps may not support MLS, which will limit its usefulness.
