Flashback
ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) is a tactical ballistic missile developed by the American company Lockheed Martin. It was put into service in the late 1980s. ATACMS is designed to engage a variety of targets on the battlefield, including command posts, radars, ammunition depots and armoured vehicles.
The missile has a range of 140 to 300 kilometres (depending on the modification). It is launched from multiple launch rocket systems such as the M270 MLRS and HIMARS. ATACMS is equipped with inertial and GPS navigation, which ensures high precision strike.
The missile's warhead can be fragmentation or cluster, which allows it to be adapted to different tactical tasks. By the way, Ukraine is actively using ATACMS missiles in the war against Russian invaders.
