Lithuania to buy €36 million worth of drones for its army
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence has announced that it will purchase various types of UAVs from local manufacturers for €36 million.
Here's What We Know
The Defence Resources Agency under the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence has announced the purchase of drones from regional and local manufacturers. These are primarily drones from the Latvian company Edge Autonomy and reconnaissance mini-drones from the Estonian company Threod Systems. It also includes Lithuanian quadcopters from UAB Deftools.
The majority of the company's drones will be delivered to Lithuania this autumn, and the rest - by early 2025. The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence has contracted the UAVs as a matter of urgency to strengthen the army and integrate them into the Lithuanian armed forces as soon as possible.
"By 2030, about 200 million euros will be allocated for the purchase of all types of unmanned systems. On average, it is planned to spend 30 million euros per year," the press release said.
Interestingly, Lithuania's defence industry has increased its production capacity of various types of drones in recent years, especially after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. For example, in May of this year, almost 30 companies and 100 company representatives presented their products at the Lithuanian exhibition "Drone Day 2024".
