New Apple Watch SE may have a plastic case instead of aluminium
Apart from the Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple is also working on an updated version of its most affordable watch. According to a new report published today, Apple is considering a significant change for the next generation Apple Watch SE: a plastic design.
Here's What We Know
Currently, the Apple Watch SE is made of aluminium, just like the higher-end Apple Watch models. When Apple last updated the Apple Watch SE in 2022, it redesigned the back cover, replacing ceramic with a new nylon composite material.
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman reports that the next-generation Apple Watch SE could ditch the aluminium case "in favour of hard plastic".
The report does not provide any further details, but the obvious advantage of such a change is cost reduction. If Apple starts making the Apple Watch SE out of plastic instead of aluminium, this could theoretically lead to a reduction in the initial price, which is currently $249. For comparison, the most affordable Samsung watch costs from $199.
