Black Myth: Wukong will have only one available difficulty level, which will be quite difficult
Game Science, the developer of Black Myth: Wukong, is trying to avoid associating its game with the Soulslike genre. However, despite these efforts, the upcoming action RPG will have several characteristics of this subgenre. In particular, the game will have one level of difficulty, which is expected to be quite difficult.
Here's What We Know
In an interview with VGC, Game Science said that Black Myth: Wukong will not have a difficulty setting, and players should prepare for different degrees of difficulty throughout the game. The studio emphasised that there will be many boss battles that will require a trial-and-error approach, like in Souls-like games, where players can expect difficult bosses and frequent deaths:
"You can’t change the difficulty, but the difficulty doesn’t remain the same for the whole game. The philosophy is that players fight like a hero. When we were developing the game we had to make a lot of hard choices. The route we chose was to make the player have lots of tries so that after each battle they could think about what is the best combat method for this fight specifically."
