A sensation that turned out to be a fake: the developers of LA Noire denied information about working on a sequel to the detective game
Over the weekend, a mini-sensation swept through the gamer community - "the authors of the famous detective game L.A. Noire are creating a new project based on it".
However, everything turned out to be not quite like that.
Here's What We Know
It all started when composer Freyja Garbett announced that she was writing music for "a huge project for Video Games Deluxe called Sowden House". This studio employs a lot of game designers who were involved in the development of L.A. Noire (remember, the studio Team Bondi, which created the detective, has long been closed) and since the information was filed that the new game is created in the setting of Los Angeles in the 1940s, many thought that the composer means a sequel or spin-off of L.A. Noire.
Finally, the developer released a statement clarifying the situation:
- Video Games Deluxe is not developing any game related to L.A. Noire.
- Freya Garbett's information partly concerned a VR project, the concept of which was based on materials that were not included in the final version of L.A. Noire.
- Sowden House is essentially a techno-demo created to show Rockstar Games a potential game and far from the fact that it will ever come out.
- The music was commissioned years ago to emphasise the mood of the project and "to support the Australian composer".
This story confirms that not all information from the internet, even when voiced by someone involved in the event, can be believed. However, there is no doubt that many gamers would love a sequel to L.A. Noire.
Video Games Deluxe Studios is currently working on a VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but there hasn't been any information about that project in a while.
