iOS 18 will allow you to record and decrypt phone calls
The iOS 18 update brings a long-awaited feature that iPhone users have been dreaming of for years: the ability to record phone calls directly in the Phone app. It's not just about recording the conversation - iOS 18 can also generate a transcript of the call, making it an indispensable tool for business and personal purposes.
Here's How It Works
A new record button appears during an active call, allowing you to start recording with a single tap. Call participants are notified that they are being recorded.
When the call ends, the recording is automatically saved to the Notes app. iOS 18 also introduces an AI Summary feature that uses Apple Intelligence to create a summary of the key points of a conversation. This allows you to quickly review conversations or look up specific information.
Not available on all devices and languages
While call recording and transcription are part of iOS 18, it's important to note that there are still some limitations. AI Summarise is only available on newer iPhone models, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. In addition, call transcripts are currently only available for a few languages:
- English (US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore)
- Spanish (USA, Mexico, Spain)
- French (France)
- German (Germany)
- Japanese (Japan)
- Mandarin Chinese (mainland China, Taiwan)
- Cantonese (mainland China, Hong Kong)
- Portuguese (Brazil)
When We Can Expect It
Call Recording and Call Transcripts should be available with the official release of iOS 18 this autumn.
Although the feature hasn't yet appeared in the iOS 18 developer beta, it's expected to be included in the final release.
