Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra no longer support wireless charging from a smartphone
The latest releases of Samsung's Galaxy Watch have lost a useful charging feature - the ability to wirelessly charge the watch using your phone.
Here's What We Know
From the very beginning, Samsung's Galaxy Watch series (and even the Gear line that preceded it) used wireless charging. This came along with the ability to use "Wireless PowerShare", Samsung's brand for reverse wireless charging, to recharge the Galaxy Watch. This was a very handy feature, although it only worked reliably with Galaxy devices.
Samsung explains that this is due to the updated health sensors on these watches, which change the shape of the glass on the bottom to the point where wireless charging is no longer possible.
However, the new sensor design required a change in the shape of the back glass. The changes have increased the distance between the watch's internal wireless charging coil and the wireless charger, so the wireless power sharing feature available on the previous model is no longer supported.
Older chargers may work, but they will be slower and generate more heat.
