Norway to finance IRIS-T SL air defence system for Ukraine

The Norwegian government will allocate $92 million for the purchase of one IRIS-T SL battery for the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said at the NATO summit in Washington that his country is providing a new aid package to support Ukraine's air defence. He also promised that Norway would soon provide even more aid to fight the Russian invaders.

The minister added that $92 million would go to support the German initiative to strengthen air defence for Ukraine. According to him, the delivery of this battery is expected in autumn 2024.

"The brutal attacks we saw last week show why it is so important for Ukrainians to have more protection against Russian air attacks," explained Garrere.
