Another Patriot system: Ukraine and Romania sign security agreement
In Washington, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Romania Klaus Iohannis signed a security agreement between the two countries.
Here's What We Know
Under the agreement, Ukraine will receive a Patriot air defence missile system from Romania. The relevant decision on the transfer was made at a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defence (Consiliului Suprem de Apărare a Țării) on 20 June.
In addition, the agreement contains clauses on security in the Black Sea region: Romania will help Ukraine mine the Black Sea. In addition, the transit of all necessary equipment through Romania will now be as fast as possible.
"Separate blocks of the document relate to intelligence and counterintelligence, cybersecurity, information security, humanitarian demining, sanctions, and the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine," the Presidential Office said in a statement.
Importantly, thanks to the security agreement, Romania will be able to officially assist the F-16 training centre for Ukrainian pilots together with its partners.
It is worth noting that Ukraine has already signed 23 bilateral security agreements: with the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Japan, the US, the EU, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Luxembourg, and Romania.
