Google is preparing a new design for the QR code scanner built into Android
Google is making some changes to the QR code scanner built into Android. The new design rearranges the buttons in the user interface and adds a small animation.
Here's What We Know
Back in Android 13, Google added support for the built-in QR code scanner. Since then, it has been updated with new features, such as the ability to automatically detect and enlarge QR codes.
The QR code scanner in Android is most easily accessed through the Quick Settings panel, which is available on Pixel and some other devices. The scanner works through Google Play services and is available as an independent tool that you, as a user, have access to, as well as a tool that can be used by third-party apps (for example, Beeper uses it).
As noticed by Android Authority, a new design is being prepared that rearranges all the buttons in the user interface. The current design has a "Scan with Photo" button below the QR code field, as well as buttons for controlling the flash and sending feedback in the upper right corner. In the new design, all three buttons are located directly below the QR code field. There is also a small tweak to the animation.
This new version was found in Google Play Services v24.28.30, but it is not yet being implemented.
