Russia loses at least 100 T-90M tanks in Ukraine, which it called "the best in the world"
According to open sources, at least 100 Russian T-90M tanks, which Vladimir Putin called "the best in the world," were destroyed during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
The losses were recorded by Oryx, an open-source intelligence website that relies on visual evidence to confirm and track casualties in the war on both sides. According to the site's analysis, the losses include destroyed, damaged and captured vehicles. However, some tanks may have been destroyed in combat, and it is extremely difficult to verify this information.
For example, earlier this year, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine published footage of a US Bradley infantry fighting vehicle destroying a Russian T-90M tank with fire from a 25mm chain gun.
One of the first reports of the loss of the latest T-90M came just a few months into the war, when a Ukrainian journalist shared a photo of a burnt-out vehicle in Kharkiv. At the time, the T-90M was considered one of the most technologically advanced combat vehicles in Russian service.
Overall, Russia's tank losses in this conflict are staggering. According to Oryx's analysis, Russia has lost more than 3,000 tanks so far.
