The iPhone 16 series is on its way and Apple is keen to reduce iPhone 15 stock, but sales of the current generation have fallen short of expectations, data from analyst firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has revealed.

Here's What We Know

The only exception was the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which posted better sales results, likely due to its periscopic Tetraprism camera. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus accounted for 17% of Apple's smartphone sales in the third quarter, which is comparable to sales of the iPhone 15 Pro (17%) and only slightly behind sales of the base iPhone 15 (19%).

The least popular model was the iPhone 15 Plus with 8% of sales. Interestingly, even older models such as the iPhone 13 performed well, taking 10% of sales, which is more than the iPhone 15 Plus. The reasons for this interest in older models could be the lack of innovation in new devices and users' desire to save money.

Apple plans to attract users to the iPhone 16 series by adding Apple Intelligence AI capabilities and the latest Bionic Pro chips to the base models. The company has ordered production of 90 million iPhone 16 devices by 2024, indicating high sales expectations.
