Samsung is removing its Samsung Messages app from Galaxy smartphones, replacing it with Google Messages
Samsung has decided to ditch its messaging app in favour of Google Messages on the new Galaxy Fold 6 and Flip 6 foldable devices in the US. This change was revealed by analyst Max Winebach on the Samsung Members app.
Here's What We Know
The notification explains that Google Messages will become the default app and Samsung Messages will remain available on the Galaxy Store, but with limited features.
The move is a continuation of a policy started in 2021, when Google Messages became the default app on Galaxy S21 devices in Europe and the US. It is also reported that in Canada and Europe, the new Galaxy Fold 6 and Flip 6 foldable devices will come with Samsung Messages pre-installed, but Google Messages will be the default app.
Samsung explains that switching to Google Messages will bring many benefits to users, including default RCS support. Despite this, some users may want to continue using Samsung Messages after its absence, so the company will leave it available in the Galaxy Store.
