The British company BAE Systems has started assembling the first prototype of the fifth generation fighter jet called the BAE Tempest.

Here's What We Know

The first prototype of this new generation of fighter jet is already being assembled at the BAE Systems Air facility in Warton, Lancashire. These facilities also produce the European Eurofighter Typhoon.

The photos presented at the Farnborough Airshow show the initial stages of the aircraft assembly. The finished version should be ready by 2026, and the first flight of the Tempest fighter is scheduled for 2027. After that, it will be subjected to extensive testing to further improve the design and integration work.

According to Martin Lowe, director of the UK Ministry of Defence's Advanced Aircraft Programme, participation in the Tempest project is key to the development of advanced technologies, including 3D printing for the manufacture of individual parts.

Currently, BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce are involved in the project. However, they are working closely with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Italy's Leonardo, which allows them to combine high engineering expertise to achieve results in a short time.
