Steam has improved the interaction with demos: now you don't have to install them right away, and the demo can get a separate page
Valve has improved the functionality of Steam even further. This time, the update is aimed at demos.
Here's What We Know
Valve has made a few changes to the way demos look in the Steam library and the options for managing them. Here are the main ones:
- You can now add demos to your library without installing them right away. Simply click the new Add to Library button if you're not ready to install a demo (for example, when using the Steam mobile app).
- Now you can install demos even if you already have the full version of the game. This will primarily make it easier for developers to test demos and easier for players to manage their installation and uninstallation.
- Demos can now be removed from accounts. To do this, right-click on the demo, select "Manage" and then "Remove from account". When you uninstall the demo, it will automatically disappear from the library.
Demos can now have a separate page in the store. By default, free demos appear on the main game's page in the store as a button. However, developers asked for the possibility of creating a separate page where they could describe the content of the demo in more detail, add screenshots, upload a trailer, and specify the supported features. Now it is possible. Therefore, sometimes when you click on a demo, you can see a whole page dedicated to it, and sometimes you can go to the main game page, where there is a button to install this demo.
Also, demo pages in the store will show both a button to install the demo and a widget with a link to the full version of the game so that interested players can purchase it or add it to their wishlist.
Demos will appear more frequently in various places on the Steam store. Demos can now appear in the same sections and lists as free-to-play games. For example, they can now be seen in lists on the Steam home page, such as New & Popular, the New on Steam page, as well as on the pages of relevant tags and categories. The company has also made changes to some of the thresholds for showing free products in these sections to better balance them with paid products.
You can always find something to play in the free demo centre on Steam.
