YouTube has made it harder to watch videos when using ad blockers, inserting a black screen in place of adverts
YouTube continues to step up measures against users who use ad blockers.
Here's What We Know
It has become known that the company has introduced a new technology that shows black screens instead of blocked adverts. Users on Reddit report that these screens last from 6 to 20 seconds. This is believed to be due to the introduction of ad insertion technology in the server itself, which makes adverts part of the video itself, making them harder to skip.
YouTube has yet to comment on the technology, but recently released a statement about raising security standards for browser extensions to protect viewers and content creators from cyberattacks. Some users don't mind the brief black screens, but between this innovation, the closure of YouTube Vanced, and the existing three-warning policy, YouTube is clearly keen to encourage users to upgrade to YouTube Premium.
