Meizu, the Chinese company known for its smartphones, is planning to make a breakthrough into the electric car market with the new DreamCar MX. Developed in collaboration with Geely, this car promises to stand out from the competition with innovative features and a user-centric approach.

Here's What We Know

This was announced by Meizu Chief Operating Officer Liao Qinghong at the ChinaJoy 2024 exhibition. He stressed that the car will have unique functional characteristics that will distinguish it from traditional manufacturers.

The upcoming Meizu DreamCar MX will be produced by Geely and will be based on the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform. The first images show the design of the sedan, which is similar in size to the Lynk & Co Z10.

One of Meizu's key differentiators is its strong focus on user engagement. In January, the company launched the DreamCar MX community, an interactive platform that allows fans to participate in discussions about design and personalisation options. This includes co-creating colour schemes, Flyme Auto themes, and potentially influencing other aspects of the car.

However, the success of Meizu's automotive venture remains uncertain. Both Meizu and Xiaomi lack sufficient experience in car manufacturing compared to traditional automakers.

The Chinese EV market is highly competitive, with established players such as BYD and Tesla holding significant market shares.

As the launch date approaches, we can expect more information about the Meizu DreamCar MX. Time will tell if Meizu can find its niche in the world of electric vehicles.
