New feature in Windows 11 allows you to manage Android files via explorer

Microsoft is developing a new feature for Windows Insiders that allows Android users to access their phone's files through Windows File Explorer 11. This makes file management much easier than the limited capabilities of the Your Phone app.

Here's What We Know

The new option is already available in all Insider channels. To use it, your phone must be running on Android 11 or later and you must be registered in the Windows Link beta testing programme with version 1.24071 or later. On your computer, you must be running Windows 11 and enrolled in the Windows Evaluation Programme in any of the four channels.

To set up this feature:

  • Go to Bluetooth and devices, Mobile devices in Windows settings;
  • Select "Manage devices"
  • Granting access to your phone will unlock the "File Explorer access" switch;
  • If the toggle is not available, it means that the feature has not yet been implemented on the device.

Whether this option will be included in the Windows 11 stable release will depend on user feedback and test results.
