The US Department of Justice is asking a federal court to reject TikTok's attempt to avoid a law requiring it to be sold or banned due to a national security threat. They argue that TikTok collects information about users' views on topics such as abortion, gun control, and religion.

Here's What We Know

According to the filed documents, the Lark search tool allows ByteDance and TikTok employees to collect user data based on their statements. The Ministry of Justice also claims that TikTok can be used to manipulate content and store confidential information on servers in China.

TikTok rejects these accusations, calling them unfounded, and considers attempts to ban the app "unconstitutional". Company representatives emphasise that the Constitution protects their position. The law, signed by President Biden in April, requires ByteDance's Chinese parent company to sell TikTok, otherwise the app will be banned in the US.
