Google is updating Circle to Search and Lens with the About This Image feature. It is now available when using Circle to Search on Android and Google Lens on Android and iOS.

Here's What We Know

This feature provides additional context about an image, including information from news sites, fact-checking, metadata, and digital watermarks.

At the same time, Google makes it easier to remove blatantly fake content or deep fakes.

Here's How It Works

Search allows you to request the removal of fake explicit images without consent. After removal, Google systems will try to filter out all explicit results for similar search queries.

When an image is successfully removed, the systems will search for and remove any duplicates. Google is also updating its ranking system to reduce blatant fake content for many search queries. The updates have reduced the influence of explicit images on queries by about 70%.

The search engine demotes sites with a high number of removals due to fake explicit images so that such content does not appear at the top of search results.
