At the end of 2023, a wave of layoffs took place in the American studio Bungie, which left about 100 people, which was 8% of the staff, without a job.

This event caused a strong reaction in the gamer community, but it turned out that this did not solve the company's problems.

Here's What We Know

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons announced the unpleasant news: another 220 employees of the company will lose their jobs, which is 17% of the staff! The dismissals will affect all departments of the company, including leading specialists and managers.

Pete Parsons explained this decision by increasing development costs, changes in the industry and economic conditions. According to him, Bungie needs to change its approach to work and focus on only two projects: development of Destiny franchise and completion of production of sci-fi shooter Marathon.

In addition, Bungie will initiate a tight integration into the PlayStation system, for which 155 managers will be brought into Sony Interactive Entertainment's work environment over the next few months to help forge closer co-operation.

Bungie and the PlayStation Studios management team are beginning to create an "in-house incubation project" that should grow into a full-fledged studio within PlayStation Studios to develop some sort of sci-fi action game.

Bungie has some tough times and huge changes ahead, but Pete Parsons is confident that the studio will survive the challenge and come out of it a winner.
